GBSPM present at CIOB Wales

GBSPMGBSPM held a Chartered Institute of Building Meeting and presentation with director of BRE on 9th November 2010.

Gordon Brown and Martin Townsend, director of the BRE Global presented on the effective use of BREEAM as it currently stands and about the new update under the revised BREEAM scheme, BREEAM 2011.

The talks provided information on: What we as an industry need to be doing in order to build anything in the next decade.  The emergence of BREEAM yard stick for virtually any new building project to be measured against is undergoing a new incarnation called BREEAM 2011.

With the current move towards Government agendas; both Cardiff Bay and Westminster, pushing for a continual reduction in Carbon from built environment, BREEAM has come to the fore of schemes and can sometimes; like any tool, be badly applied.  This was underpinned by the talk by Gordon Brown, Cardiff's CIOB Vice Chair, member of Wales Carbon Low Zero Hub and Director of GBSPM.

Even with Gordon reliant on crutches to get around, both talks were fluent and covered a great deal of information from the overarching principles down to the suppression of dust pollution on site.  Both talks were well received by approximately 50 CIOB members and non-members.  Topped off by an excellent buffet and a chance to discuss some of the finer points and network.  The evening was a great success!

Gordon is also the Construction Ambassador for the CIOB covering all sustainabililty issues.
