A recent addition to the BREEAM schemes, in June 2008 BREEAM Healthcare was launched by the BRE in place of the ineffective NEAT (NHS Environmental Assessment Tool).
As with other BREEAM schemes it covers the nine sections but with additional credits included for the client operating the facilities efficiently.
BREEAM Awards 2011
GBSPM was one of the first assessors in Wales to attain the BREEAM Healthcare Licence with Loudoun Square in Cardiff. This building also received an award for the highest scoring BREEAM assessed healthcare Wales 2011.
The BREEAM Healthcare methodology is tailored to assess all healthcare facilities including GP surgeries; health centres; community, teaching, general and mental hospitals.
BREEAM in Hospitals
GBSPM are currently involved with Europe's largest healthcare partnership, Circle. GBSPM assist Circle in providing bespoke hospitals over the UK. The hospitals are designed with the aims of BREEAM in mind to improve on planning requirements and provide reduced running costs and better staff interaction/morale/happiness throughout their new hospitals.
The Department of Health in Wales require, as a condition of the Outline Business Case (OBC) approval, that all new healthcare buildings obtain BREEAM Excellent and that all refurbishments achieve BREEAM Very Good under the Healthcare scheme.
